President : Professor Enqin Zhang President of UK Academy of Chinese Medicine, an internationally renowned Chinese medicine practitioner, a senior member of the Royal Society of Medicine and the ATCM, the vice president and secretary-general of ACMP ( the Association of Chinese Medicine Practitioners UK ), and an expert for the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies in the Clinical Efficacy Evaluation Committee. He began studying Chinese medicine in 1972 at Shandong College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), in Laiyang, Shandong, China. From 1975 to 1979, he studied Western medicine at Shandong Loude Medical College. In spring of 1979, he undertook the advanced studies course on Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage) and Jin Kui Yao Lue (Synopsis of the Golden Chamber) for young teachers of Chinese TCM universities organized by the Chinese Public Health Ministry at Heilongjiang University of TCM, in Haerbin, China. In September 1979, he successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam and became a postgraduate student of Shandong University of TCM, in Jinan, China. Afterwards he spent 3 years specializing in Shang Han Lun under his tutor Professor Li Ke-shao, the renowned specialist in Shang Han Lun at home and abroad.In September 1982, he graduated from Shandong University of TCM with the postgraduate diploma and Master of Medicine. On 26th Sept.1992, he also obtained his doctorate from Alternative Medicine Institute. From 1982, he lectured on Shang Han Lun in Shandong University of TCM and practiced under his tutor Professor Lu Tong-jie, a highly regarded TCM clinical expert at the university affiliated hospital.From 1985-1991, he was director of the Advanced Studies Department of Shandong TCM University as well as a chief author and editor of many TCM books, such as 【Research in Classical Formulas】 (discussing more than 100 formulas of Shang Han Lun and Jin Kui Yao Lue) , published by Yellow River Press in 1989; and the series 【A Practical English-Chinese Library of TCM】, composed of 14 books, the first English-Chinese edition of TCM textbooks in the world, published by Shanghai TCM University Press in 1990, which has been distributed to more than 80 countries. In 1991, he acted as chief editor of 【Chinese National Traditional Medicines Series】, composed of 27 books, including【Tibetan Medicine】,published by Science Press starting from 1991 to 1996. In 1991, he was one of the winners of the Academic Degree Committee of Chinese State Council & Education Ministry’s award to 695 Chinese Doctorate & master’s degree holders for their outstanding achievements. Additionally, his new English edition book 【Shang Han Lun Study Guide】, mainly introducing current clinical applications and pharmaceutical researches of formulas in Shang Han Lun , has been published in June 2012 by People’s Medical Publishing House , Beijing, China. Since 1992, Professor Enqin Zhang (Engin CAN) has lectured and practiced in many countries. Currently, he is one of leading practitioners and educators in Chinese medicine and acupuncture in the UK and Europe. He has obtained the full membership of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medcine and Acupuncture UK (ATCM) since 5th October 2006, and got the fellow member of ATCM on 24th Nov.2011; he is a senior member of the Royal Society of Medicine UK. Today, practices at King's Cross TCM & Herbal Centre UACM and acts as president of UK Academy of Chinese Medicine ; he also is Distinguished Professor of Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, etc , in postgraduate courses for master’ s and doctoral degrees in Chinese medicine and acupuncture.
